Obama In Africa ‘Let’s do business’ Gabriel Gatehouse BBC News, Dar es Salaam 2 July 2013

BBC’s Gabriel Gatehouse article ‘Obama in Africa ‘Let’s do business’ is a reflection on US President Barack Obama’s “… America’s businessman – in chief  …” trip to Africa in June – July 2013.

“…US President Barack Obama’s tour of Africa ended as it had begun, with a nod to history …” Gabriel Gatehouse, BBC.

The US President’s  trip took him to  Senegal, South Africa and Tanzania. One of the poignant images for Mr Gatehouse is President Barack Obama, the US first Black African President standing alone “…possibly contemplating the arc of history…” at the gateway of Gorsee Island , Senegal, West Africa . This is the place where slaves were shipped to the West Indies and the Americas.

There are other images which include President Obama in Nelson Mandela’ cell on Robben Island and a young person’s favourite, President Obama kneeling next to young South Africans at The Reverend Desmond Tutu’s HIV Foundation Youth Centre.

President Barack Obama and former President George W Bush attended a wreath laying ceremony remembering the victims of the 1998 US Embassy bombings in Dar es Salaam.
