Kenyans to enjoy various freedoms under new laws

It has been dubbed one of the most progressive Bill of Rights, with more than 30 articles addressing social, economic, religious, labour, political, civil, environmental and cultural rights.

As focus shifts to implementation of the new laws, Chapter Four of the new Constitution arguably remains one of the most eagerly awaited by a public that has become increasingly aware of its rights.

Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) chair Florence Jaoko says while civil and political rights are to be enjoyed immediately, Kenyans may have to wait a little longer for realisation of economic rights, which will be progressive.
