Climate Change Issues In Kenya

The Climate Change Debate.
is extremetly “heated” (sorry for the pun)! Whatever side of the debate you belong to, one thing you cannot ignore is that peoples lives and the environment is at risk and we cannot afford to sit on our hands and do nothing … people especially the poor are dying!

So what is happening in Kenya? and what are the people in that country doing about it? One of the first port of call is the UN Climate Change Conference website. Explore the links and documents inorder to provide yourself some useful background. You will probably end up in the different camps, “It is all fiction!,” “It is a natural cycle…!” “It is the greatest threat to humanity…!” The scientists may know what is going on,
but what about the general public?

For detailed information about Kenya and its response
– a useful start would be Kenya’s National Environmental Management Authority.

“The National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) is established under the Environmental Management and Coordination Act (EMCA) No. 8 of 1999, as the principal instrument of government in the implementation of all policies relating to the environment…” Source: NEMA

You can then take time alone or in a study group going through the issues addressed in
NEMA states: “The challenge for Kenya is to develop strategies, which would promote sustainable development, without compromising in increased emission of GHGs (Green House Gases)…. This link can be found under the Climate Change
section of NEMA’s website entitled Climate Change Issues in Kenya.

So what do you think and what is your local MP’s/Representative/stakeholder’s views on this (wherever you are in the world). Sign up, join the forum and debate.
