What is in the New Deal? – The Sunday Standard 13th 2008. This is a report (The Standard Team) on the meeting between President Mwai Kibaki and Prime Minister designate Raila Odinga in at Sagana Lodge in Central Kenya.
‘President Kibaki and Prime Minister-designate Raila Odinga met at Sagana State Lodge, Nyeri, and could have sealed a deal. They met away from the glare of cameras and allies always tugging at their coat tails. The meeting lasted over six hours’.
The report identifies the Ministries that are under contention. Kibaki and Raila promised the country a coalition Cabinet after meeting on April 3. According to their programme the Cabinet would have been named on April 5 and sworn-in yesterday.
Sagana Lodge was a gift from the people of the Colony of Kenya to the then Princess Elizabeth now Queen Elizabeth the Second who visited the lodge in 1952, when she learnt about the death of her father, King George VI. It is now a State lodge used for the exclusive use of the President of Kenya. Other State Lodges in Kenya include Nakuru and Mombasa.
Helicopters – The President Mwai Kibaki and the Prime Minister Designate Raila Odinga flew in Kenya Air Force Puma Helicopters to Sagana approximately, 200 kilometres from Nairobi, Kenya. These were featured in various news reels and photographs. According to the the Aerospatiale Puma helicopters were purchased in 1978. Aerospatiale merged with Daimler Benz Aerospace AG in 1992 to create Eurocopter. In 2000 the company became part of European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company (EADS) End.
