Opposition Leads In Kenya Elections – FT.COM

Raila Odinga, the populist leader of the Kenyan opposition, has pulled ahead of President Mwai Kibaki in the race to head one of Africa’s most vibrant democracies, according to unofficial media tallies of the votes counted so far.

In the presidential poll, Mr Odinga had the support of just over 50 per cent of voters, versus 40 per cent for Mr Kibaki, according to provisional results compiled last night by two television stations based on less than half the votes cast.
