The Sunday Standard 13 January 2008 is recommended reading - The report 'World Watches Kenya' focuses on the call by various groups for the Kibaki and Raila camps to choose mediation. Former head of the UN and Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Kofi Annan will be leading the mediation process with the help of Mrs Graca Machel (former South African First Lady - wife to Nelson Mandela) and Benjamin Mkapa (former Tanzanian President). Calls for mediation have come from The UN's Ban Ki Moon, USA and local religious groups. The US statement highlights that the US cannot ' in the meantime conduct business as usual in Kenya.' The statement ends with the hope that Kenya will emerge out of 'this crisis a stonger and just democratic society.' There are calls from religious groups for the planned opposition rallies to be called off. End
